The Lions Need Strength : help them

The existence of the Bracknell Lions Club’s serving Bracknell for a period of more than 40 years is in danger as the membership has reduced to only six. The group is afraid that it may have to close down if more people did not come forward to support it.

Determined on his point,Chairman Mike Hendy, said that he will not let the group’s activity of charity events and serving the community close down, but he contradicted himself by saying that he won’t be able to do anything with so few members.

In the last few years, the strength of the club had been thirteen but gradually the number declined and these have not yet been replaced. Optimistic about the future activities, Mr. Hendy said that the average number of member in the club was 21 and he will try to recruit as many people as possible to the club in order to organize the big local events ass in the previous good days.

Following their motto “We Serve”, the group still continues with it’s one of the project called Message in a Bottle regardless their minimal strength. Visiting local elderly people and putting their medical details inside a bottle is main activity carried under this project which helps the elderly peoplein emergency.
Though they are unable to cater to all the requests but still they do the maximum they can with putting much burden on their remaining members.

Mr. Hendy is looking forward to rebuild the group and bring it to a point where they can organize events like Bracknell Carnival or the May Fayre like they have in Wokingham.

Anyone, regardless of their age and sex, interested may call Mike n 0845 833 7837.

Processing Fees on Credit cards waived off for Haitian Donors

Betsy Markey has requested the credit card companies to wave off the processing fees when the donors pay by their credit card for the Haiti relief funds. Credit card companies take 3% of the transactions made by your credit card even for charity donations but by this effort of removing the processing fee more people will be urged to join hands in the relief fund.

This Fort Collins Democrat Betsy Markey wrote a letter to the heads of the major credit card companies and then American Express announced that it would repay fees to about 65 collecting money for Haiti Relief.  Similar step was taken by American Express and a number of credit card companies for the 2004 Tsunami relief.

The amount of money that the credit card companies make with the charity donators is whopping and if this kind of money reaches people in need then that’s the best thing. Markey emerged as a leading congressional critic of credit card companies to levy processing fees on donations and is still fighting to wave it off for the well being of the survivors.

Recession diminishes Charity by 10%

A survey conducted by some of the charity organizations have found out that the charity has gone down by 10% as the people pulled their hands back due to recession. According to Investec Private Bank around 71% of people said that they donated a good amount of money to many of the relief funds in 2009.

Another survey showed that one among five people said that they had reduced the amount of money they gave for charity as recession was hounding them in a great deal. Investec also said that the fall in income was expected to have been made worse for charities since the returns they are receiving are very low in deposit accounts. Charities normally hold around 15% of their assets in cash.

Charities like other sectors have suffered the harshness of recession and a drop in donations is affecting many of the organizations to carry pout their good work said Jack Jones of Investec Private Bank. To solve this problem many of the deposit accounts are also offering terrible interest rates so it is crucial that they shop around for accounts that will give them a good return.
