Processing Fees on Credit cards waived off for Haitian Donors

Betsy Markey has requested the credit card companies to wave off the processing fees when the donors pay by their credit card for the Haiti relief funds. Credit card companies take 3% of the transactions made by your credit card even for charity donations but by this effort of removing the processing fee more people will be urged to join hands in the relief fund.

This Fort Collins Democrat Betsy Markey wrote a letter to the heads of the major credit card companies and then American Express announced that it would repay fees to about 65 collecting money for Haiti Relief.  Similar step was taken by American Express and a number of credit card companies for the 2004 Tsunami relief.

The amount of money that the credit card companies make with the charity donators is whopping and if this kind of money reaches people in need then that’s the best thing. Markey emerged as a leading congressional critic of credit card companies to levy processing fees on donations and is still fighting to wave it off for the well being of the survivors.
